N.O.U.N is one of the new Federal Univesities in Nigeria that started during the tenure of President Olusegun Obasanjo who was also one of its pioneer students. The National Open University is meant to bridge the gap which the older generation universities could not fill in terms of admission spaces, location and availability of facilities. It is not designed to be inferior to any of the other Universities but to complement their efforts. A federal university is owned by the Federal government and is mostly sustained by the resources of that government. Lately, Federal universities have been encouraged to look inwards to generate funds for their operations rather than depending on the federal government for everything.
